Internationally acclaimed chamber music ensemble the Borodin Quartet will revisit Hong Kong and give a concert next month (September).
Currently comprising Ruben Aharonian and Andrei Abramenkov (violin), Igor Naidin (viola) and Vladimir Balshin (cello), the ensemble will play Haydn's "String Quartet in D, Op. 64, No. 5, 'The Lark'", Beethoven's "String Quartet No. 2 in G Minor, Op. 18, No. 2", Mozart's "String Quartet No. 16 in E-flat, K428" and Tchaikovsky's "String Quartet in B-flat".
The concert will be held at 8pm on September 2 (Tuesday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall.
Formed by four students from the Moscow Conservatoire in 1945, the ensemble, formerly known as the Moscow Philharmonic Quartet, was renamed the Borodin Quartet in 1955. For more than 60 years, with member alternations, the ensemble has been celebrated for its insight and authority in the chamber music repertoire.
It has performed all over the world, including Vienna, Zurich, Frankfurt, Madrid, Lisbon, Seville, London, Paris and New York. In addition to performing quartets, the members of the ensemble regularly join with other distinguished musicians to further explore the chamber music repertoire. Their partners include Yuri Bashmet, Elisabeth Leonskaja and Christoph Eschenbach.
The concert by the Borodin Quartet is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets priced at $100, $150, $200 and $250 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis).
