Seven employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 29) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $110,000 on behalf of 14 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

    At the tribunal's hearing today, four defendants, namely Wong Ka Kee trading as C & K Engineering Co., Ng Fat Tak trading as New Tak Shing Restaurant, Ad Works Co. Ltd. and Hui Kwong On trading as Nam Wah Tung Kong Restaurant, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $43,655.24, $25,795, $15,225 and $14,691.6, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The other thee defendants, namely Hongkong Bright Holdings Limited trading as Royal Plaza Court Seafood Restaurant, Superease Engineering Limited and Fidelity Concept Development Limited trading as Royal Plaza Restaurant, did not appear at today¡¦s hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $5,908.05, $2,825 and $2,584.58, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amounts awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $140, $120, $90, $160, $90, $76 and $70 as the costs in respect of the claims.

    Hong Kong Bright Holdings Limited trading as Royal Plaza Court Seafood Restaurant pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to seven counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $18,000.
