The Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) today (July 29) discussed a toll increase application from the Tate's Cairn Tunnel Company Limited (TCTC) and fare increase applications from Lantau and urban taxis.
TAC Chairman Ms Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah said the TAC, in deliberating on TCTC's application, had considered and balanced various factors including public acceptability, the company's financial position and whether it was obtaining reasonable but not excessive remuneration and traffic implications.
As to the fare increase applications from Lantau and urban taxis, the TAC had taken into account factors including the changes in the revenues and operating costs of Lantau and urban taxis, the impact of the proposed fare increase on passengers and public acceptability as well as the revised taxi fare structure policy recommended by TAC.
"Similar to other fare increase applications, the TAC will submit its recommendations on these applications to the Government for consideration by the Chief Executive in Council," she said.
"We note that the Government will submit the applications to the Chief Executive in Council for consideration in accordance with the established procedures, " she said.
The TAC was also briefed on the findings of a study conducted by the Hong Kong Housing Authority on the standards of parking provisions in public housing developments. Members noted and agreed that, in the light of the existing and projected future demand, the parking provisions for private cars, light goods vehicles and motorcycles in public housing developments, as promulgated in the Hong Kong Planning Standards and Guidelines, would be suitably revised to better reflect demand.
