Six employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 3) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $45,000 on behalf of 14 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

    At the tribunal's hearing, Leung Ping Kan trading as Luen Fung Transportation Co, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered the defendant to pay the MPFA $26,998.02, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The other five defendants, Yeung Chun Hung trading as Chun Hung Engineering Co, Chong Wai Man trading as Liang Liang Noodles, Fameast Limited trading as South Bay Vietnamese Restaurant, Star East Management Limited and Wing Ko Metal MFY. FTY. (HK) Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $15,340.81, $1,657.46, $733.93, $472.50, and $358.13, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $180, $90, $140, $99, $96 and $76.
