The 2008 provisional register for geographical constituencies has reached a record high with more than 3,370,000 registered electors.
A spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (June 15) that there were about 166,000 newly registered electors for geographical constituencies. With the deletions of electors who had passed away or who had not reported their latest residential addresses to the REO, there was a net increase of more than 75,000 electors on the roll than in 2007.
The number of electors in the provisional register for functional constituencies has also increased by about 17,000 to more than 229,000.
The geographical constituencies provisional register and omissions list, along with those for functional constituencies and Election Committee subsectors, will be released tomorrow (June 16) for public inspection until June 30.
More statistical information about these provisional registers will be available tomorrow at the voter registration website at www.voterregistration.gov.hk.
"All validated applications for registration as electors, and changes of particulars that have been made known to the REO, are included in the respective provisional registers," the spokesman said.
"For those who are no longer eligible for registration, their names are removed from their respective registers and included in the omissions lists which will also be published."
Anyone who has applied to register but does not find his name in the relevant register, or whose name is included in an omissions list, or who finds that his entries are incorrectly recorded, may lodge a notice of claim in person with the REO by June 30.
Anyone who considers that a person is not eligible to be registered may lodge a notice of objection in person with the REO also by June 30.
Specified forms for claims and objections are available from the REO or can be downloaded at www.reo.gov.hk/en/voter/application.htm.
Those on the provisional registers should report any change in addresses and other registration particulars to the REO by June 30.
"Failure to do so may affect their eligibility to vote in the Legislative Council election in September," the spokesman said.
For geographical constituencies, full copies of the provisional register will be available for public inspection during ordinary business hours from Monday to Friday at the REO at 10/F Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai. The relevant section of the register pertinent to a particular district will be available at the respective District Office. As regards the geographical constituencies omissions list, full copies will be available for public inspection at the above mentioned office of the REO and the various District Offices.
For functional constituencies and Election Committee subsectors, full copies of the provisional registers and omissions lists are available for public inspection at the REO's Harbour Centre office and its office at 10/F Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, and the District Offices in Central, Mong Kok, Kwun Tong, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan.
Members of the public can call the REO hotline, 2891 1001, to check if their names are listed in the registers or the omissions lists.
The REO will publish the final registers on or before July 25.
