Tenders invited for purchase of former government quarters
**********************************************************

The Government Property Agency is inviting tenders for the purchase of seven flats together with seven carparking spaces which are former government quarters located at Happy Valley and Jardine's Lookout, Hong Kong.

Details of the tenders are contained in the Government Gazette published today (June 13).

Four of these flats are located at Blocks A and D of Beverly Hill, 6 Broadwood Road, Happy Valley, and the other three at Block A of Elm Tree Towers, 8 Chun Fai Road, Jardine's Lookout. Each of the flats at Beverly Hill has a saleable area of about 136.15 to 136.62 square metres (about 1,466 to 1,471 square feet) while each of the flats at Elm Tree Towers has a saleable area of about 162.25 square metres (about 1,746 square feet).  Each of these flats together with one designated car parking space will be sold with vacant possession.  Tenderers may submit tenders to purchase one or more or all of the flats.

All seven flats will be open for inspection by interested parties every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from June 14, 2008, to July 2, 2008 (10am to 6pm).

Interested parties are required to register at the reception counter of Flat D2 on 2/F of Block D of Beverly Hill and Apartment No. 2 on 12/F of Block A of Elm Tree Towers respectively before inspection.

Tender documents are available for collection at the Government Property Agency, 31/F, Revenue Tower, 5 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, during office hours (8.30am to 5.45pm from Monday to Friday).  They can also be downloaded from the agency's website: www.gpa.gov.hk.

Interested tenderers must submit their tenders before noon on July 4.  Late tenders will not be accepted.

Demand for non-departmental quarters has dropped as civil servants joining the Government on or after October 1 are not eligible for non-departmental quarters with the introduction of new civil servant housing benefit schemes. It has been the Government's intention to dispose of surplus quarters as circumstances permit. Since the 1990s, more than 220 surplus quarters have been sold in the market.
