HKETO sponsors Yokohama Dragon Boat Race (English only)

    Thousands of athletes as well as spectators enjoyed a day of fun and excitement on the final day of the Yokohama Dragon Boat Race held at Yamashita Park, Yokohama, today (June 8).

    The annual event, in its 15th year, was sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade office in Tokyo (HKETO) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government with an aim to promote better understanding and a closer relationship between Japan and Hong Kong.

    It has become a spectacular tourist attraction for Yokohama and one of the largest dragon boat races in Japan.

    A total of 189 teams participated in 74 matches over four days on May 31, June 1, June 7 and today.

    The highlight of the matches today was the Hong Kong Cup which attracted 23 teams to compete. After several fiercely contested matches, the championship went to Tokyo Newly-wed Club.

    The HKETO also set up an exhibition booth at the venue to promote interest in and understanding about Hong Kong.
