Eight employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 30) pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $84,000 on behalf of 11 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

    At the tribunal's hearing today, two defendants, Yue Cheung Engineering Company Limited formerly known as Multi-tide Industrial Limited and Best Artistic Advertising and Decoration Co Ltd, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $14,470.6 and $9,009.43, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The other six defendants, namely Stephen Finley trading as Finley & Co., Liberty Hero Enterprises Limited, Crown Fame Holdings Limited, Met Kitchen Limited trading as Tak Po Association, Spotting Media Limited and Li King Tim Patrick formerly trading as Chung Shing Funeral Service Accessories Showroom, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $29,510, $11,001.2, $8,600, $8,423.37, $3,444.16, $130.92, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $246, $182, $180, $90, $96, $172, $112 and $120 as the costs in respect of the claims.
