    The Government announced today (May 30) the following appointment to the Statistics Advisory Board for a period of two years from June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2010:

    A government spokesman said, "With their expertise and background in different sectors, we are confident that the team of new and serving members will provide valuable contributions to the work of the Board."

    "We are also grateful for the contributions that the retiring members, Professor Li Wai-keung, and Ms Paddy Lui Wai-yu, have made in the government statistical development during their terms of appointment," the spokesman added.

    The Statistics Advisory Board is a non-statutory advisory body established in 1972 to advise on matters pertaining to official statistical work.  The Board is chaired by the Commissioner for Census and Statistics and consists of both official and non-official members.  While the composition of official members represents Government interests in regard to statistics on economic and social fronts, the non-official members offer a balanced representation from businesses, the academia and the community.  Views from three sectors, namely data users, raw data suppliers and statistical scientists are thus integrated.
