Eligible people urged to register as electors by May 16
*******************************************************

The Registration and Electoral Office (REO) today (May 4) reminded eligible people to submit their applications for voter registration by May 16.

The 2008 voter registration campaign was launched on April 5.

"Only registered electors can vote in the Legislative Council election on September 7," an REO spokesperson said.

Hong Kong permanent residents holding an identity document who have reached 18 years of age and ordinarily reside in Hong Kong are eligible to be registered as electors.

Registered electors do not need to register again, but they should report any change in address or other registration particulars to the REO by June 30.

Electors are also encouraged to provide or update their email addresses on a voluntary basis. REO will provide the email addresses to the candidates concerned for the purpose of sending election advertisements.

Relevant forms for voter registration and report of change in registration particulars are available from District Offices, post offices, management offices of public housing estates, and the REO. They can also be downloaded from the voter registration website (www.voterregistration.gov.hk).

Applications can be submitted by mail to the REO at 10/F, Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, or by fax to 2891 1180.

"Applicants should call the hotline 2891 1001, if they do not receive any reply from the REO within 14 days after their submission of applications," the spokesperson said.
