SLW visits family of construction site accident victim

    The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, visited the family of the late Mr Tang Siu-tong, the worker who died in an industrial accident in Cheung Sha Wan, this (April 23) evening.

    Mr Cheung was very saddened to hear of the sudden death of Mr Tang and his father, and expressed deep condolences to the family.

    Mr Cheung was concerned about the dependants' livelihood and the well-being of the two young daughters. He stressed that the Social Welfare Department would do all it can to assist the family, including the burial arrangements for the deceased.

    A clinical psychologist from the Social Welfare Department will continue to provide counselling services to the family members. The case worker will follow up with the necessary services for the two children.

    Mr Cheung said that the Labour Department was assisting the dependants in seeking compensation under the Employees' Compensation Ordinance. Suspension notices had been served to the contractor of the building site and other parties involved to suspend the use of grab loaders for clearing building debris on the site. The Labour Department is investigating the accident.
