Launching ceremony for the 2008 Voter Registration Campaign
***********************************************************

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, and the Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Pang Kin-kee, officiated at the launching ceremony for the 2008 Voter Registration Campaign this afternoon (April 5).

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tang called on eligible residents who have yet to register as voters, to sign up before the registration deadline on May 16, so that they could vote in the Legislative Council election in September.

He also reminded those registered voters who had changed addresses to inform the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) by June 30.

The Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan; the Acting Director of Broadcasting, Ms Gracie Foo; and Voter Registration Ambassadors Denise Ho, Alex Fong, Shek Sau and Louisa So, also took part in the campaign launching. A number of Legislative Council Members, District Council Chairmen and Vice-chairmen showed up to support the campaign.

A number of canto-pop singers and the "young politicians" from a Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) radio programme performed at the ceremony and helped promote the voter registration messages.

The ceremony was jointly organised by the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau and RTHK. The REO also set up voter registration counters at the event venue at New Town Plaza, Sha Tin.
