Launch of New Senior Secondary information kit
**********************************************

The e-version of the New Senior Secondary (NSS) Information Kit is launched today (March 13) on the Education Bureau's "334 Web Bulletin".

"With the approach of the implementation of the NSS academic structure in 2009, schools have been working hard to prepare for its implementation and communicating with different stakeholders," a bureau spokesman said. "To facilitate schools' meetings with students and parents, we have prepared an NSS Information Kit which includes comprehensive and updated information and reference materials on various aspects of the NSS academic structure."

Information provided in the kit includes the NSS curriculum, newly introduced subjects, assessment, university entrance requirements, multiple pathways, parental support for students under NSS and funding resources. Each item is supported, as appropriate, by powerpoints, videos or useful websites. Schools may select, download and adapt the materials in the kit to suit their different needs. The kit also provides reference materials and useful websites for school leaders, teachers and parents wanting to know more about NSS.

"The kit will serve as a user-friendly tool for schools to communicate with students, parents and teachers and enable all stakeholders to reflect on their own roles and work together for the implementation of the NSS academic structure. We will supplement information on other NSS-related issues such as careers education, requirements of post-secondary institutions and Civil Service employment requirements in due course," the spokesman said.

In connection with the launch of the kit and to update schools on the latest progress on the new 334 academic system, the bureau organised a seminar this morning for principals, vice-principals and NSS co-ordinators in the New Territories East region. Similar seminars will be held in other regions of Hong Kong between mid-March and early April. At today's seminar, participants were provided with updated information on the development of "334". Experience in using timetabling tools to maximise the choice of NSS subject combinations and flexible use of teaching space and resources were also shared at the seminar.

People may access the e-version of the kit on the bureau's "334 Web Bulletin" (www.edb.gov.hk/334).
