Police are investigating the death of a newborn baby girl whose body was found on a pavement in Central this afternoon (March 9).
About 2.45pm, a 41-year-old female passer-by reported that a newborn baby girl was found on the pavement near the junction of Connaught Road Central and Pedder Street.
The baby girl, with an umbilical cord, was embraced by a multi-coloured towel and a black coat inside a white paper shopping bag. The baby was certified dead by ambulancemen at the scene.
A post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow (March 10) to ascertain the cause of the baby's death.
Investigations by District Crime Squad of Central District are proceeding.¡@Anyone who saw the incident or who has any information is urged to contact the investigating officers on 2860 1957 or 2860 1958.
