Nine employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority :

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 21) pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $120,000 on behalf of 10 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

    At the tribunal's hearing today, the eight defendants, comprising Digivalley Limited, Pang Yuen Ching formerly trading as Luen Wo Medicine Co., Lau Muk Wah formerly trading as Lung Kong Transp. Co., King Interior Design Limited, Roxel Enterprise International Limited, Kingying Computer Label Ltd, Universal Investment Enterprises Limited trading as Apple Snooker Club and Hong Kong Travel Group Foundation International Investment Shares Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $48,851.5, $39,077.67, $13,708.57, $7,986.71, $5,472.85, $3,399.6, $1,047.38 and $735,being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    Meanwhile, the adjudicator yesterday (February 20) ordered a defendant, Q Language Limited (formerly known as the Park Language Group Limited) to pay the MPFA the sum of $5,000 being financial penalty imposed by the MPFA for failure to make MPF contributions for employees.

    The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $256, $280, $190, $96, $156, $80, $80, $86 and $166 as the costs in respect of the claims.

    Kingying Computer Label Ltd pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to five counts of failing to enroll its employee in an MPF scheme as required by the ordinance and was fined $8,000.
