The Chief Executive-in-Council has approved the increase in the flagfall fare by $1 for urban and New Territories (NT) taxis. The new fares will be effective from midnight on February 28, 2008.
A Transport Department spokesman said, ¡§The Taxi Fare Table with the new fares is required to be displayed inside the compartment of the concerned taxis from midnight on February 28, 2008. Before the re-calibration of the existing taximeters in the taxis, all taxi owners / drivers are required to display the fare conversion table issued by the Transport Department for passengers¡¦ reference.
"As for the taxi fare receipt, if the new fare is not shown on the receipt, the taxi driver should write down the new fare in accordance to the new Taxi Fare Table on the receipt before issuing to the passenger," the spokesman added.
