SLW visits Wong Tai Sin district
********************************

The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, this afternoon (February 12) visited Wong Tai Sin district.

Mr Cheung started the visit by touring the Lok Fu Retraining Resource Centre (RRC) of the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) at Lok Fu Shopping Centre. Operated by the Hong Kong Employment Development Services, Lok Fu RRC aims to assist the board¡¦s graduates and those who have enrolled for the retraining courses in job searching and sustaining their employability through self-learning.

He then visited the Chuk Yuen Canon Martin District Elderly Community Centre of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council and was briefed on the centre's various integrated home care services, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, personal care, meal delivery and grocery purchase.

For a better idea of how services are delivered to the elders, Mr Cheung visited two elders in the Upper Wong Tai Sin Estate who require physiotherapy and meal delivery services respectively, and took the opportunity to wish them well in the New Year.

Before ending his visit, Mr Cheung toured the workshop of a successful Community Investment and Inclusion Fund project launched in 2006 in San Po Kong. The workshop employs about 10 middle-aged women who used to be in the garment industry to offer highly customised uniform-making services to restaurants, schools and boutiques.

¡§I am glad to note that the workshop has not only established itself as a unique brand for uniforms through the effort of the workers, volunteers, and young people interested in the garment industry, but also serves as a valuable platform for all involved to give full play to their skill, experience, and potential,¡¨ Mr Cheung said.
