Tuen Mun Hospital reports Norovirus cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

    A Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) spokesperson made the following announcement today (February 6):

    Since January 29, three male patients (aged 53 to 93) and two staff of an orthopaedics & traumatology ward have had vomit and diarrhoea symptoms.  Two of the patients tested positive for Norovirus. The patients are being treated under isolation and they are in stable condition.  The two staff concerned are now on leave.  The symptoms of the two staff have subsided. 

    Admission to the ward has been suspended.  Restricted visiting of and discharge from the ward has been imposed.  Patients' relatives have been informed about the situation.  Infection control measures for the ward concerned have already been stepped up.  All other patients and the staff in the ward are under close surveillance.

    The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
