Man charged with publishing obscene articles
********************************************

A 29-year-old Hong Kong man charged with the publishing of obscene articles will appear at Tuen Mun Magistrates Courts tomorrow (February 1).

On Monday and Tuesday (January 28 and 29), Police received reports from representatives of two Hong Kong artists after they found nude photos on the Internet showing  someone looking like the artists.

The Technology Crime Division of the Commercial Crime Bureau took over the case for investigation and arrested the 29-year-old man in the New Territories yesterday (January 30). Officers seized two computers from the man's home.

Images of an obscene nature in connection with the case were allegedly found inside the computers.

Police today (January 31) warned people that publishing obscene articles on the Internet was an offence under the Control of Obscene and Indecent Articles Ordinance. This also included the act of reposting the obscene articles or Internet hyperlinking of obscene articles, whether for profit or otherwise. Any person convicted of this offence is liable to a fine of $1 million and imprisonment for three years.

Anyone who received the nude photos should delete the images immediately, and report their publication to police.  The Police and Internet-related industries are determined to clamp down on the publication of obscene articles on the Internet
