The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, today (January 17, US time) met the Secretary for the California Environmental Protection Agency, Ms Linda Adams, to exchange views on environmental protection, particularly efforts to combat air pollution, on the second day of his visit to the United States west coast.
Mr Yau also met the Chair of California Energy Commission, Ms Jackalyne Pfannenstiel, to share experiences in electricity market reform, particularly the opening up of the electricity market. He was also briefed on California initiatives to promote the use of renewable energy.
At a luncheon co-organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (San Francisco) and Northern California World Trade Center, Mr Yau talked about Hong Kong's efforts in tackling air pollution both locally and regionally. On climate change, he spoke about Hong Kong's action plan that focused on enhancing energy efficiency and promoting energy conservation. More than 50 business leaders and corporate managers attended the luncheon.
Mr Yau also called on the Chinese Consul General in San Francisco, Mr Gao Zhansheng.
