Queen Elizabeth Hospital Norovirus cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     A spokesperson of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following announcement today (January 15):

     Since January 8, six female patients (aged 75 to 87 years) of a medical ward have presented with diarrhoea and vomiting symptoms. All patients are in stable condition and are on appropriate isolation precautions. The test results of the six patients were positive to Norovirus.

     Admission to the ward concerned has been suspended while visiting arrangements remain normal. Infection control measures have been stepped up, while all other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     QEH Infection Control Team has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.
