***********************************************************

Mr Jack Maisano, president of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Hong Kong, visited San Francisco today (January 10, San Francisco time) and spoke at a business luncheon co-organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco and the Hong Kong Association of Northern California.

Speaking on ˇ§The Future of Hong Kong Competitiveness:  Challenges and Opportunitiesˇ¨, Mr Maisano cited the top 10 reasons why Hong Kong would continue to be a success. He mentioned that the city has a unique history, energy, outstanding education and it is open, self-critical, honest, corruption free and modern. Its people have an enormous sense of self-worth and empowerment.

ˇ§The modern world runs on specifics, not generalities.  And Hong Kong has developed the specific skills needed to succeed in the modern world. In spite of this, Hong Kong still practises moderation,ˇ¨ he said.

ˇ§Hong Kong people and their predecessors have created a city of dreams.  Its destiny is not specifically about trade, or logistics, or finance, or any one element.  Its success is not a function of its wealth.  It is the cause of it,ˇ¨ he continued.

Hong Kong has been strong, proactive, creative, energetic and humanistic in dealing with its challenges and that will be the measure of its success, commented Mr. Maisano.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong is one of the largest American chambers outside the United States, the largest international chamber in Hong Kong and the most dynamic and influential international business organisation in the Asia-Pacific region.
