Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Equestrian Commemorative Medallion issued (with photos)
****************************************************

To commemorate the 2008 Olympic Games to be held in Beijing and Hong Kong's co-hosting of the equestrian events for the first time, a commemorative medallion is being issued by the 2008 Beijing Olympic Equestrian Events Hong Kong Fund.

The price of each medallion is $3,998. All funds raised will go towards financing projects and activities relating to the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic equestrian events.

The medallion, made of gold plated 925 silver, is a Beijing 2008 Olympic Games licensed product.  The medallion depicts an equestrian athlete and his steed boldly leaping over the Victoria Harbour skyline, while the reverse features the emblem of the Hong Kong SAR against a repeat pattern of the year 2008 in the background.  Designed by world-renowned Hong Kong designer Alan Chan, the medallion is manufactured with the authorisation of the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. The medallion includes a certificate of authenticity with a serial number and is presented in a stunning crystal case.  The issue will be limited to only 5,000 medallions.

The chairman of the fund's board of governors, Ms Elsie Leung, said that the fund was set up to inspire the people of Hong Kong to embrace the Olympic spirit, enhance understanding of  equestrian sports and encourage public participation in the events.

She said: "The commemorative medallion not only marks people's support for Hong Kong co-hosting the Olympic equestrian events, it is also a perpetual treasure of the pride of Chinese people."

Ms Leung and the board members have recently introduced the medallion to various local associations, charitable organisations and bodies.

The medallion has so far received a positive response and a number of organisations and individuals have placed orders for nearly 2,000 medallions.

The medallions are now distributed through channels including private clubs, charitable organisations and community groups.  For enquiries, please call 2810 7606.
