Following is the transcript of remarks (English portion) by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, at a media session after the opening ceremony of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Jockey Club Tin Shui Wai Integrated Services Centre today (November 30):
Reporter: How would this plan (setting up a telebet centre) help the Tin Shui Wai residents?
The Secretary for Labour and Welfare: The decision of the Jockey Club to locate a new telebet centre here is a very important decision and I would describe it as a shot in the arm in terms of job creation for Tin Shui Wai which is really short of job opportunities, particularly bearing in mind the fact that there is a huge population here, a young population and also a population of new immigrants. The beauty of this scheme is it combines both job creation and community neighbourhood development because it will also train all its employees into volunteers and also, I understand that Jockey Club will base its volunteer teams in Tin Shui Wai. In other words, apart from job creation, there will be a very important support for community neighbourhood development, so it is a win-win situation for everybody.
