Three employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 30) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $20,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, the two defendants, Chan Chi Tai & Lee Tou Li formerly trading as Kai Shing Spicy Crab Restaurant (translation) and Cheung Cho Wai trading as Yick Lee International (HK) Trading Co., did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $7,820.59 and $5,792.8, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other defendant, Man Cheong Construction Engineering Company Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $7,900.46, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $210, $210 and $168 as the costs in respect of the claims.
