Secretary for Security talks about election violence

    Following is the transcript of remarks (English portion) by the Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, at a media session at the Legislative Council today (November 28):

Reporter: What is your concern about the reports of election violence? Anything more you can and will do?

Secretary for Security: I must emphasise that the Hong Kong SAR Government will not tolerate any kind of violence in connection with elections or electioneering activities. I appeal to all parties and their supporters to be restrained and calm, and to respect the other candidates.

Reporter: What more can officials do? What more should they do? What more will you do?

Secretary for Security: We'll appeal to all parties to be calm, to be restrained. I wish to reassure the community that our police will have sufficient resources and manpower to maintain law and order. We will spare no efforts in maintaining our good law and order. We will not tolerate any act of violence or any breach of our peace. The police will take proper action.

Reporter: Will police step up ...?

Secretary for Security: The police will deploy resources.
