Picture shows a calendar poster of Shanghai Commercial and Savings Bank produced in 1936. It is another item from the Museum of History's collection featured at "The Development of Banks in Shanghai and Hong Kong" exhibition. Shanghai Commercial and Savings Bank, one of the earliest private banks in China, was established in 1915 in Shanghai. Founder Chen Guangfu graduated from university in the US specialising in business. He was the first businessman to introduce modern operating and management models to China. He also set up a travel department within his bank in 1923. The travel department was reorganised as China Travel Service (CTS) in 1927. He also jointly established Paofoong Insurance Company Limited with Swire Pacific Limited in 1931. The Hong Kong branch of the Shanghai Commercial and Savings Bank was set up in 1934. The exhibition will be held from tomorrow (November 28) to March 24, 2008, at the Museum of History.
