The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 12) obtained orders in the District Court against two employers for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $360,000. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $14,000 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions.
The District Court today issued judgments against Ocean Nice Development Limited trading as Fish Village Restaurant and Hung Wang Company Limited trading as Corner Cafe. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA $273,623.09 and $93,391.26, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 25 and eight employees of the defendants respectively.
At the tribunal's hearing, the defendant, Everich Construction & Engineering Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $14,036, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court further ordered the defendants to each pay costs of $930 and the tribunal ordered the defendant to pay costs of $80.
