Customs and Police seize computer hard disks

    Hong Kong Customs and Marine Police seized 6,765 computer hard disks, worth about $4 million, in a joint operation at Sai Wan Tsui in Sai Kung this morning (November 8).

     A 26-year-old Hong Kong man was arrested and a truck was impounded.

     Customs officers of the Marine Strike and Support Division and police officers of the Small Boat Division swooped about 3am when goods were loaded from a truck onto speedboats.

     It is believed that a syndicate was attempting to smuggle computer equipment to the Mainland by speedboats.

     Hong Kong Customs and Police today (November 8) stressed that they would continue their stringent enforcement against smuggling by sea.

     Under the Import and Export Ordinance, smuggling is a serious offenceĦ@and can result in a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
