Death of Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre inmate

    The condition of a male inmate with chronic diseases was found to have worsened by medical staff of the hospital in Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre (SLPC) at about midnight last night (November 2).

     A Correctional Services Department spokesperson said the inmate was immediately given first aid treatment by medical staff of the institution. He was then taken to Tuen Mun Hospital where he was later certified dead.

     His relative was informed of his death. Police has also been informed of the incident.

     An inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

     The 55-year-old Chinese inmate, surnamed Lee, had been convicted of a charge of wounding and was ordered in 1987 to be detained in SLPC under the Mental Health Ordinance.
