************************************************************

The Government Flying Service (GFS) will hold an open day at its headquarters at the Hong Kong International Airport, Lantau, on November 18 (Sunday) for people to learn about its work and daily operations.

The Open Day will be from 10am to 5.30pm. People can have a close look at the GFS fleet of planes and helicopters, and enjoy the fun at various game stalls and exhibitions. Free tickets for the Open Day will be available for collection at the Public Enquiry Service Centres of the District Offices from Thursday (November 1).

The GFS is working closely with other government departments to deliver emergency services to the local community and fulfill Hong Kong's international obligations in search and rescue missions. At the Open Day, GFS officers will introduce its wide spectrum of round-the-clock aviation services.

There will be low level formation flying by J41 Fixed Wing planes, and rescue demonstrations involving helicopters to showcase the emergency flying services and rescue operations of the GFS.

Children can dress up as GFS pilots for photo opportunities.

Also on display will be a number of advanced aircraft, such as the J41 Fixed Wing, EC155B1 Dolphin and AS332L2 Super Puma Helicopters. A variety of sophisticated search and rescue equipment and engineering maintenance equipment will be featured.

There will also be exhibitions and game stalls run by the Fire Services Department, Civil Aviation Department, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Lands Department, Civil Aid Service and Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps.

The Dog Units of Hong Kong Police Force and Customs and Excise Department, the Motorcycle and Bicycle Team of Civil Aid Service, Civil Aid Service Band and Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps Ceremonial Squadron will perform for visitors.

People can take the MTR to Tung Chung Station (Exit B) and then take Bus No. X52 from the terminus to the venue. No parking facilities will be available for visitors.

The GFS is located within the Tenant Restricted Area of the Hong Kong International Airport. Visitors are required to produce valid proof of identity and show their admission tickets before they are admitted to the GFS headquarters.
