Hong Kong debut for jazz diva Carol Kidd
****************************************

World-class British jazz vocalist Carol Kidd will make her Hong Kong debut in December.

Considered to be "a singer's singer" and described by Frank Sinatra as "the best kept secret in British jazz", Kidd will be on local stage for the first time at 8pm on December 3 (Monday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall.

Kidd was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and began her singing career at the age of 15. She became a full time professional singer when Sinatra invited her to open his show at Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow in 1990. Almost immediately she was invited to appear at the internationally acclaimed Ronnie Scott's Club in London. Tony Bennett was singing in London at the time and he made a point of coming to hear Kidd.

Since then, she has been voted the best vocalist at the Cannes International Jazz Awards and best performer at Edinburgh International Jazz Festival in 1991. In the same year, her recording "The Night We Called It a Day" was voted the best jazz recording at the UK Musical Retailers Awards. She was awarded an MBE (services to jazz) at Buckingham Palace in 1998.

Her albums are all best-sellers around the world and one of her greatest songs, "When I Dream", stayed at the top of the Billboard charts for 14 weeks.

"Jazz Up: Carol Kidd" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
