The Digital 21 Strategy Advisory Committee was today (October 4) briefed on the Government's work plan and key initiatives on promoting technology co-operation between Hong Kong and the Mainland, and advised that persistent efforts should be made to generate synergy and business opportunities.
In recent years, the Government has been actively promoting innovation and technology co-operation and exchange between Hong Kong and the Mainland. Co-operation agreements have been reached with various Mainland authorities, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Information Industry, Guangdong Provincial Government and Shenzhen Municipal Government.
The Hong Kong/Guangdong Expert Group on Co-operation in Informatisation (EGCI), set up in 2006 under the aegis of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation Joint Conference, has begun its second-year co-operation programmes to maintain the impetus of the existing initiatives, as well as to develop new initiatives in such areas as software industry co-operation; application of Radio Frequency Identification technology in logistics management, customs clearance, inspection and quarantine; co-operation in radio management; and co-operation in the development of information technology professionals.
The EGCI also encourages Hong Kong and Guangdong to open up respective access in respect of IT infrastructure and supporting platforms; strengthen exchange and co-operation in the development of the IT service sector; and promote the development of cross-border information exchange platform.
During the meeting, the committee was also briefed on the implementation of digital terrestrial television in Hong Kong and proposals to further integrate IT into learning and teaching.
