Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival at Hong Kong Cultural Centre tonight

    The Leisure and Cultural Services Department staged the Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival tonight (September 24) at Hong Kong Cultural Centre featuring entertaining programmes and spectacular lantern displays.

     Highlight of the carnival was the Ethnic Arts Parades presented by the Chinese Ethnic Arts Troupe. Renowned ethnic artists from all over China performed traditional dance and indigenous music of the Mongolian, Tibetan, Miao, Korean, Yi, Tujia, Uygur, Dai and Han groups. The parade was complete with a traditional handicraft demonstration and the ethnic costume show. Other carnival programmes included Chinese instrumental music, traditional stage arts show, lantern quiz and fortune-telling.

     The spectacular lanterns "10 Brothers Dance with the Dragon" at the Piazza made up with an 80-metre long dragon lantern and 10 life-size lanterns of "10 brothers" became a popular photo-taking spot for carnival-goers. The lantern displays will continue until October 21.

     Another lantern carnival will be held at Victoria Park tomorrow (September 25) featuring a 10-metre spectacular lantern "Harvest Harmony". Details of the carnival are as follows:

     Programmes: Chinese Ethnic Arts Parade, traditional stage arts show, nostalgic games, lantern quiz, fortune-telling, handicraft demonstrations and lantern display

     Another spectacular lantern display, the "100 Creatures Gather and Glitter", is also being showcased at West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade until October 1. The display showcases lanterns in the shape of 10 types of creatures, among which is the eye-catching Fuwa Huanhuan, the mascot of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, riding a horse and ready for the Equestrian Events.

     People are urged to avoid littering and wax-burning while celebrating the festival.
