MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for 15 employees

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 17) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $70,000 on behalf of 15 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     Chow Kin Chor and Li Fung Hing trading as Lok Wah Fast Food, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $16,335, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other four defendants, Wui Yuen Tung Industrial Limited, Chi Tat Trading & Engineering Limited, Beauty Square Limited and Noble Time Holdings Limited trading as Apple Snooker Club, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $19,726.56, $15,659.76, $9,961.92 and $8,817.74, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered defendants to pay $150, $136, $106, $96 and $159 respectively as costs in respect of the claims.
