Tin Shui Wai Celebrates the Tenth Birthday with HKSAR (With photos)
************************************************************

The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) staged today (15 September) the Finale Carnival of its community programme, ˇ§Tin Shui Wai in Celebrationˇ¨, in Tin Tsz Estate.

Officiating at the ceremony, Mr Thomas Chan, Permanent Secretary for Transport & Housing (Housing), said that the HA has been working towards providing quality accommodation for public rental housing (PRH) residents in Tin Shui Wai, while at the same time fostering a caring and loving community. The series of activities in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) were held in Tin Shui Wai as a reminder of the importance of caring for the family and of participation in community affairs.

This series of celebratory activities, featuring a photo contest, production of a huge finger painting, a variety show and game booths, all share the common theme of ˇ§Harmonious Family, Caring Communityˇ¨. Residents, schools, district councils and non-government bodies were invited to take part in the organisation of todayˇ¦s finale carnival, a collaboration that contributed to a culture of harmony and cooperation within the community.

A 250 square foot finger painting, in honour of the Hong Kong SAR, had its final touches added by Mr Chan and over a hundred community members and students from Tin Shui Wai at the carnival.

This collective creation, which took over two months to come into being, showcased the artistic flair of almost 300 PRH residents and Housing Department staff. The HA has made a submission for an entry in the Guinness World Record. Mr Chan expected Tin Shui Wai residents would be proud of this remarkable feat and, in the process, participants were able to appreciate the virtues of participation and giving.

Another event, the ˇ§My Fond Impression of Tin Shui Waiˇ¨ Photo Contest, also has had its award presentation ceremony today. Winning entries were exhibited at the carnival for all the authors to share with their neighbours their feelings about the community. The development and evolution of Tin Shui Wai were vividly documented in the outstanding photos.

Attending the occasion were Dr Tang Siu-tong, Chairman of Yuen Long District Council, and Mr James Chan Yum-min, JP, Yuen Long District Officer, who were joined by a number of young PRH residents born in the year 1997 and representatives from various community bodies.
