Two employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 11) pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $30,000 on behalf of three employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The two defendants, Choi Po Shoen trading as Kapo Construction Company and Cheung Chi Loi trading as Wison Offset Printing Factory, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $23,628.17 and $9,989.91, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the defendants to pay $110 and $150 respectively as the costs in respect of the claims.
