The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in August showed a decrease of 0.1% (430 cases) over July, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released today (September 5) by the Social Welfare Department.
Total CSSA caseload at the end of August stood at 291,665 (see attached table), with a total of 510,467 recipients.
Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed a continued decrease of 1% in August to 34,984.
Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.3% in August to 37,949.
Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.3% to stand at 17,672.
Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $17.8 billion for 2005-06.
