Two employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf on the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 5) obtained an order in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $50,000 against an employer. The MPFA also pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $30,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employer.

     The District Court today issued a judgment against Wing Cheong Dispensary Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $54,337.50, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to an employee.

     Meanwhile, at the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Tam Yuk Ping trading as Ocean Fine Employment Agency, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $30,210.66, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court further ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930 for the District Court case and the tribunal ordered the defendant to pay costs of $140.
