*********************************************************

The following press release is issued on behalf of the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong:

The Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board of the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong today (September 3) announced that the 2008 Chinese Medicine Practitioners Licensing Examination is open for application from September 14 to October 25 (both dates inclusive) this year.

The Licensing Examination consists of Part I Written Examination to be held in June, 2008, and Part II Clinical Examination in August, 2008.

People wanting to apply for registration as a registered Chinese medicine practitioner must pass the Chinese Medicine Practitioners Licensing Examination.

Those who have previously passed the written examination but not the clinical examination should enrol to sit for Part II Clinical Examination on or before March 28, 2008.

Listed Chinese medicine practitioners who wish to undertake the Licensing Examination in 2008 should submit their enrolments from September 14, 2007, to March 28, 2008.

A spokesman for the Chinese Medicine Council said that except the listed Chinese medicine practitioners, a person was eligible to undertake the Licensing Examination if he had satisfactorily completed an undergraduate degree training course in Chinese medicine practice or its equivalent as approved by the Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board.

Undergraduate degree courses in Chinese medicine of no less than five years offered by the universities and institutes stated in Table 1 of the Candidates' Handbook of the Licensing Examination are recognised by the Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board.  Other than the clinical internship and clinical practice, the course must be fully conducted in the school awarding the bachelor degree in Chinese medicine.

The "Candidates' Handbook for the 2008 Chinese Medicine Practitioners Licensing Examination", the application form and the enrolment form are available for collection at the Secretariat of Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong at 37/F Wu Chung House, 213 Queen's Road East, Wanchai, Hong Kong.

These can be downloaded from the council's homepage (www.cmchk.org.hk) or obtained by fax at the telephone enquiry hotline 2574 9999 of Department of Health.
