In response to media enquiries on the latest development of the bar-benders’industrial action, a spokesman for the Labour and Welfare Bureau said today (August 26) that the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung and the Labour Department are doing their best to mediate between the employees and the employers. It is hoped that both parties would return to the meeting table and continue dialogue as soon as possible with a view to narrowing their differences and reaching a consensus.
The spokesman said that the Government understands the situation of the workers, and appeals to them to exercise restraint and express their views in a rational manner.
