Ho Tung Fund gives grants for charitable projects

    The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund has allocated $9.27 million to 158 charitable projects in the areas of medical and health, rehabilitation, social welfare, special education, community and anti-narcotics.

     "This generous donation enables about 100 organisations to improve and extend their services, so more people will benefit," Chairperson of the Fund's Allocation Committee and Deputy Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Miss Eliza Lee, said today (August 24).

     The major grants included:

* $737,000 for the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to acquire equipment for the elderly and chronically ill patients, and to organise education camps for children with intellectual disability;

* $500,000 for the Samaritan Fund to provide financial assistance to disadvantaged patients to meet medical expenses;

* $460,000 for the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society to purchase a Computed Radiography System for its Cancer Rehabilitation Centre;

* $420,000 for the Cheshire Home, Shatin to instal a ceiling hoist system in its Severely Disabled Unit and Infirmary Unit;

* $396,000 for the Mental Health Association of Hong Kong to replace a 5.5-tonne truck for transport of raw materials and finished goods of its three sheltered workshops;

* $380,000 for the Salvation Army to acquire equipment and organise programmes for children and youth;

* $322,000 for Po Leung Kuk to acquire equipment and organise programmes for children with intellectual disability; and

* $300,000 for the Tuen Mun Hospital to purchase an Ultrasound Machine.

     Other fund recipients included the Hong Kong Red Cross, Ruttonjee and Tang Shiu Kin Hospital, United Christian Nethersole Community Health Service and Wu Oi Christian Centre.

     As one of the major trust funds in Hong Kong, the Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund was set up in 1956 with a bequest of $500,000 by the late Sir Robert Ho Tung. It is now managed by the HSBC Trustee (Hong Kong) Limited.
