Edmond Lau appointed to HKEx Risk Management Committee

    The Financial Secretary has appointed Mr Edmond Lau to succeed Mr Eddie Yue as a member of the Risk Management Committee (RMC) of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx).  The appointment, which is made under the Securities and Futures Ordinance, will run from September 1, 2007 to June 30, 2009.

     Mr Lau is currently Executive Director of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority responsible for strategy and risk.  With effect from September 1, Mr Lau will also be responsible for monetary management and financial infrastructure, when Mr Yue becomes Deputy Chief Executive for monetary management, financial infrastructure, reserves management, and strategy and risk.

     The RMC was established in March, 2000, with the statutory role to formulate policies on risk management matters relating to activities of the HKEx and its subsidiaries for consideration by the board of the HKEx. It is chaired by Chairman of the HKEx Mr Ronald Arculli. The other serving members of the RMC include Professor Chan Ka-lok, Mr Fong Hup, Mr He Guangbei, Mr Keith Lui, Mr Marvin Cheung and Dr Bill Kwok.
