The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has reminded people to keep the environment clean and observe fire safety measures when burning joss paper and incense during the Yue Lan Festival on Sunday (August 26).
"They should bring along metal containers for burning incense, joss paper and sacrificial offerings," a department spokesman said.
"They are also required to clean up the spots before leaving."
He said leaving ashes or burning offerings behind on the street not only created a dirty environment, but also posed a fire hazard.
"Any person who deposits waste in public places including leaving refuse, ashes or incense, commits a littering offence which carries a fixed penalty of $1,500," he said.
