Total eclipse of the moon on August 28

    A total eclipse of the moon will occur next Tuesday (August 28), and weather permitting, the event will be visible in Hong Kong.

     The eclipse will be from 3.52pm to 9.23pm. The latter part of the eclipse can be observed in Hong Kong as the moon will rise at 6.42pm. Please refer to the attached table for the details of the eclipse and and diagram of the path of the moon during the eclipse.

     The best places to observe the event will be those with unobstructed view to the east-southeast such as Sai Kung and Shek O.

     The next lunar eclipse observable in Hong Kong will occur on August 17, 2008. It will be a partial eclipse.
