Two employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:      

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 20) obtained an order in the High Court and another in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $2,400,000 against two employers.

     The High Court issued a judgement against Hin Sum Manpower Company Limited who was ordered to pay the MPFA $2,365,621.67, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 121 employees of the defendant.

     The District Court issued a judgement against Yeung Ip Fun trading as Yeung Lee Transportation Company. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA $40,350, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to an employee of the defendant.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The High Court and the District Court respectively further awarded payments of $1,550 and $930 as costs in respect of the claims.
