Voluntary reporters for summer youth programmes
***********************************************

People are invited to visit the Summer Youth Programme website to read interesting reports by reporters of the Home Affairs Department's "Voluntary Reporters Scheme" on facets of the activities carried out in the territory.

"The department has selected about 20 activities including orienteering and overseas exchange programmes for reporting," a spokesman for the department said today (August 19).

"The scheme aims to encourage participation in summer youth programmes by featuring the activities from the perspectives of youngsters.

"Through interviewing people from various walks of life and participating in voluntary work of different nature, youngsters will be able to broaden their horizons as well as improve their writing and communication skills," the spokesman said.

"It will also enhance their self-esteem and observation."

Briefing sessions were arranged for voluntary reporters. Guidelines and information of the activities were provided with a view to facilitating reporting.

"So far more than 40 youngsters from past summer youth programmes have registered as voluntary reporters," the spokesman said.

Their reports have been uploaded onto the weekly newsletter of the 2007 Summer Youth Programme's website at www.summeryouth.org.hk.
