Government continues to assist in resolving bar benders' labour dispute

In response to media enquiries, a spokesman for the Labour and Welfare Bureau said today (August 16) that the Government understood the situation of the bar benders. Although the employers and the employees have differences over pay rise and the chance of reaching a settlement is not high, the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, and the Labour Department will continue to liaise with both sides and try their best to render assistance.
Mr Cheung urged the workers to stay calm and exercise restraint. He hoped that they would resume work as soon as possible.
