Drugs found on woman remand

    The Correctional Services Department took every measure to prevent the smuggling of dangerous drugs into, and to eradicate any presence of them, in correctional institutions, a department spokesperson said today (August 11).

     The comments followed the case of a woman remand in Tai Lam Centre for Women (TLCW) who had been found with a total of 29 small packets of suspected dangerous drugs concealed in her body.

     The spokesperson said the 55-year-old woman, surnamed Kwan, was remanded in TLCW this afternoon on charges of trafficking in dangerous drugs and possession of dangerous drugs.

     The remand was taken to the Centre's reception room where she was searched by CSD officers for contraband materials.

     A plastic bag containing 29 small packets, each with two tablets of suspected dormicum wrapped in plastic sheets, was found concealed in the womanˇ¦s vagina.

     The case was reported to the Police for investigation.

     The spokesperson said there were 115 seizures of dangerous drugs last year (2006), with the seizures mainly in the reception centres.
