DanceArt Hong Kong presents emotional "Butterfly Effect"
********************************************************

DanceArt Hong Kong will next month (September) present "Butterfly Effect", its latest work by Andy Wong, which applies this scientific phenomenon to human passion.

One flap of a butterfly's wings in South America may be enough to generate a tornado in North America a week later. A tiny difference in the initial conditions of system can become amplified over time. This is what the Butterfly Effect is in science. Sometimes emotions too can be influenced by just a simple nonsense word or scornful look. How do we treat our anger?

Artistic Director and performer Francis Leung, dancers Taiju Matsumoto, Han Mei, Anthony Suen, Yvette Huang, Carol Wong, Cody Choi and Wong Sze-ling, as well as actor Guthrie Yip, will tell the story through dance about the choices we make and the results we get.

The music is composed by Chu Pak Him of the band "JuicyNing" and played by Michael Ning, Tommy Chu and Tsui Chin-hung. They will perform jazz, hip-hop as well as rock'n roll, playing "angry" sounds to emphasise the more emotional scenes.

DanceArt Hong Kong, formed in 1993 by a group of professional dance artists, is one of the most prominent professional modern dance companies in Hong Kong. Key members including Francis Leung and Andy Wong are the major creative force of the company. With professional training in different dance streams, as well as extensive stage experiences, they share the objective of promoting dance appreciation and developing the company into a versatile dance group.

The company has toured Taipei, Germany and United States to participate in arts festivals to give performances and workshops.  In 2003, DanceArt received the Hong Kong Dance Awards from Hong Kong Dance Alliance with the production "A Beautiful Life Series", for addressing social issues through dance.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Butterfly Effect" will be staged at 8pm, September 14 and 15 (Friday and Saturday); and 3pm, September 16 (Sunday) at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall.
